Weekend Preview: Round 3 Thursday 20th August 2009
After an entertaining mid week round of matches, the weekend’s full quota of Premiership fixtures looks to be an exciting one.
Burnley, who will be buoyant after their shock victory against Manchester United are at home again to Everton. The Toffees had an awful start to the season, being hammered 6-1 at home by Arsenal and will be keen to bounce back. Watch this clash carefully as it could go either way, especially if Lescott is kept out of the squad by Moyes.
Liverpool were a much improved side on Wednesday evening as they put 4 past Stoke at Anfield. Gerrard was on form and Torres had a far better game than on opening weekend. However look out for that head injury he picked up, as there is a small chance it may rule him out, or put him on the bench against Villa. Glen Johnson has a strong game, getting a goal, assist and clean sheet totalling 18 FS points.
Tottenham have had a flying start to the season and find themselves top of the table. Jermain Defoe grabbed a hat trick on Wednesday and scored a total of 21 Fantasy Stakes points on the night. Robbie Keane also looked on song with two assists and a goal to his name. They may well fancy themselves against West Ham, so a Tottenham front line in your team may pay dividends!
Man Utd will be hoping for a better performance against Wigan after their surprising defeat to new boys Burnley. Wigan themselves suffered a shock result mid week, going down 1-0 to Wolves and they will be looking to find their opening day form which saw them run out winners against Villa. The Red Devils are likely to bounce back strongly and Wigan could be in for a tough afternoon.
Big spending Manchester City will continue their assault on the “top 4” when they take on Wolves. There are a multitude of high profile names at Eastlands and if they play to their potential the Wolves’ goal will be in for a torrid time. Players such as Ireland, Robinho, Barry, Adebayor and Tevez should all be considered when picking your Fantasy Stakes team.
After 16 top flight games, we are still waiting to see the first draw of the new Premier League season. There are a few potential 0-0s for those valuable clean sheet points when Hull City take on Bolton, Blackburn travel to Sunderland and Birmingham play Stoke on Saturday.
Chelsea have won their opening two encounters, but have failed to keep a clean sheet in either. They face Fulham at the Cottage on Sunday and there are certainly no guarantees of a Chelsea shut out here. The ever improving Fulham have the potential to cause an upset and they will create problems for the Blues defence.
Sorry Portsmouth have a tricky away day at Arsenal and they suffered disappointment against Birmingham, with an injury time penalty condemning them to two straight defeats. Arsenal on the other hand are in top form, seeing in 6 against Everton and dispatching Celtic 2-0. Van Persie, Fabregas and Arshavin may all find their way into your team for the weekend.
