All Change at the Back for Man Utd Wednesday 5th August 2009
Fantasy Stakes fans will be disappointed to read about the hand injury to Edwin Van der Sar which is going to keep him out for the first part of the new season.
The Dutch shot stopper has broken a finger and a bone in his left hand and will undergo surgery which may sideline him for eight weeks.
After his superb form last season, breaking the clean sheet record, he is a huge loss to Manchester Untied and their bid to retain their Premiership title. In total last season he kept 21 clean sheets for the Red Devils in the Premier League.
That translates into a lot of Fantasy Stakes clean sheet points and Edwin was one of the most popular selections in the goalkeeping position on FS last season.
So, who is going to fill Van der Sar’s boots while he is recovering? Man Utd have a choice of two keepers with first team experience under their belts. They are Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak. The favourite to take the gloves is Foster, who has impressed boss Sir Alex.
Ferguson speaks very highly of his young, talented player. “He is seen as one of the best young goalkeepers in England and we genuinely see him as a successor to Edwin.”
Foster has had playing experience in the Man Utd first team along with gaining two caps for the England first team.
He is regarded as one of the brightest talents in English football and has the quality to stand in for Edwin and an absolute bargain for your Fantasy Stakes team.
United play Birmingham at Old Trafford on the first day of the season, so get him in your team!
