Owen Set to Snub Tigers Wednesday 24th June 2009
Hull City have made no secret of their desire to sign out-of-contract Michael Owen but the striker may not fancy a move to the KC Stadium.
The English forward recently declared that he would leave St. James’ Park when his contract expires at the end of June, and a number of clubs are reportedly interested in his signature.
But Fantasy Stakes players will know that Owen is keen to play at the highest level possible as he looks to force himself into Fabio Capello’s plans with the World Cup looming next year.
The 29-year-old may decide that he doesn’t want to play his football at a club likely to be threatened by relegation next season.
He recently said: “There are plenty of clubs who would interest me but we will see where that is, whether that’s home or abroad.
“If it was to be a good English club, that would be my preference but I have had quite a lot of interest from abroad, so I wouldn’t rule that out.”
Fantasy football players will know that Owen’s career has been on a downward curve in the last two campaigns, mainly due to injury.
In four seasons he has made 79 appearances for the Magpies and found the back of the net 30 times.
And Hull chairman Paul Duffen has said that the Tigers are ‘serious’ about a move for the striker.
“The interest is very serious,” he said.
“We can give him reasons why we believe a move to Hull City would be a good decision for his career right now.”
Fantasy Stakes players will have to keep an eye on the whereabouts of Owen as he is a player who can regularly pick up points when on form.
If he does snub Hull then there will no doubt be other Premier League clubs sniffing around him.
