Young Starlet Set for Premiership Move Friday 12th June 2009
A number of Premier League clubs are rumoured to be circling around young Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph.
The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to Everton and Aston Villa in recent weeks, although Leeds say they haven’t received a single bid.
Fantasy Stakes players may not be aware of Delph’s talents as he has been playing in the third tier of English football.
The England-Under-21 international has played 44 times for the Whites since joining from Bradford, and his form this season has caught the eye of a number of Premiership managers.
He won the Football League Young Player of the Season last term and Leeds face a tough fight to keep him at Elland Road.
Newspaper reports earlier in the week suggested that Everton manager David Moyes was ready to table a £4m pound bid for the youngster.
With Leeds still languishing in League One, a big offer would test the resolve of Whites chairman Ken Bates, who insists that he will do his utmost to keep Delph at the club.
But Leeds Chief Executive Shaun Harvey has told the official website that there had been no offers.
He said: “Despite the speculation, there have been no offers for Fab since the end of the season.
“At this stage of the year speculation is always rife although it’s never helpful.”
Everton fans will be keen to know more about Delph if David Moyes decides to bid for the player.
It will be interesting to see if the Toffees boss considers the youngster ready for the massive step up into the Premier League, or if he will wait until the player progresses further.
Fantasy football players will surely hear more of Delph in future years, whether he moves to the Premier League this summer or not.
