City Star Forced Out Friday 5th June 2009
Manchester City maybe preparing to spend big this summer but they risk forcing out one of their brightest young stars.
Daniel Sturridge’s future at the club is in doubt after he refused to sign a new contract at Eastlands.
The 19-year-old is highly rated but will be wondering if he has a future with the Sky Blues after hearing a host of rumours linking City with big-money forwards.
Sturridge only played 14 times in the Premier League last season and Fantasy Stakes players will know that he has to compete with the likes of Robinho and Craig Bellamy for a first team place.
City manager Mark Hughes has been linked with moves for world class players such as David Villa and Carlos Tevez, prompting Sturridge to seriously consider his future.
The youngster is highly talented but could be persuaded to move elsewhere if he falls further down the pecking order at Eastlands.
Mark Hughes said: “Where we are at the moment needs a shift in position from his advisors.
“We have made an offer which is a good offer for Daniel at this stage of his career and that was refused a couple of weeks back.”
Sturridge’s contract runs out in the summer and many Premier League clubs will be sniffing around the striker in case he decides to move on a free transfer.
He scored four goals in the league last term and has obvious potential to be an excellent player in the future.
Manchester City are expected to break the bank in the transfer-window as they look to bolster their squad for next season.
They have already signed Gareth Barry for £12 million from Aston Villa and have been linked with Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Fantasy football players will be interested to see whether Mark Hughes can blend his current squad with new star signings to make a successful side.
