Harry’s Striker Dilemma Tuesday 2nd June 2009
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will no doubt be wheeling and dealing in the transfer market this summer and a new striker is rumoured to be on top of his wish-list.
Spurs started terribly last season and it took a monumental effort from the squad to climb the table and finish in eighth position.
But Fantasy Stakes players will know that one thing Spurs desperately need is a striker who can consistently find the back of the net.
Robbie Keane has only scored five goals since re-joining the club from Liverpool in January and Jermain Defoe has only played eight games since returning from Portsmouth.
Russia forward Roman Pavlyuchenko blew hot and cold all season and ended up with seven goals to his name, while Darren Bent managed a respectable tally of 12 league goals.
Redknapp may have a lot of options when it comes to attacking players but he will want a forward who can bag 20 goals a season without having to chop and change.
One player he has been linked with is former Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light but returned to parent club Marseille after failing to agree a deal.
Spurs are reportedly interested in signing the Frenchman as Redknapp looks to find an answer to his attacking problems. And Cisse has said he would consider a move to White Hart Lane.
“It is a really good team and a really good stadium and good atmosphere, but at the moment it is only talk,” he said.
“I have heard a lot of good things about Redknapp. It would be good. The only choice I have now is Marseille. So at the moment I am a Marseille player. I hope that I am going to find a club in England.”
Spurs fans will be hoping that Cisse can be the missing piece in Redknapp’s jigsaw.
