Fulham’s Giant Success Thursday 28th May 2009
Fulham have had a fantastic season in the Premier League and Fantasy Stakes players will know that defender Brede Hangeland has played a huge part in it.
The Norway captain has made some excellent performances at centre-half since joining the Cottagers from F.C Copenhagen and has propelled Roy Hodgson’s side to European qualification.
Fantasy Stakes players who have picked the giant defender this term have been rewarded well – Hangeland has played in 37 out of 38 Premier League games this campaign and Fulham have only conceded 34 goals all season.
The 28-year-old may not have been fancied at the beginning of the campaign but fantasy football players will all be aware of his presence and how important it will be during the 2009/10 season.
And the Norwegian is relishing the extra games that may come as a result of playing in the Europa League.
“The physical demand will be higher next season but from my experience if you take a European campaign seriously, to get good results, then you can get into a good rhythm where you play twice a week,” he said.
“If you can do that and think positively about it then it’s a good thing. It’s happened to me before when I played in Norway and Denmark where we played games all the time. It was the best form of practice and as a result we played better.
“The season as a whole has been a great achievement for the Club and it’s been a pleasure to be a part of,” he continued.
“I think we’ve exceeded expectations a little bit this year. We should be very happy with what we’ve achieved this season and we’re in a much stronger position than we were 12 months ago and hopefully we can do well in the league and Europe next year.”
Fulham fans will be keen to keep hold of Hangeland but the ‘big-four’ are rumoured to be sniffing around the defender.
But despite not playing in one of the Premier League’s top sides, Fantasy Stakes layers will know he has been a solid points earner this season.
