Can Kamara Break Newcastle Hearts? Saturday 16th May 2009
Newcastle take on Fulham on Saturday in a crucial Premier League game for both teams.
The Magpies are looking to stay clear of the relegation zone while Fulham are striving to qualify for next season’s Europa League.
One man who is hoping to make the difference at St James’s Park is Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara. The forward impressed in the Cottager’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend in the absence of Bobby Zamora and picked up two goals as well as winning a penalty.
The 28-year-old was Fantasy Stakes top earner for round 36 – picking up 15 points ahead of Steven Gerrard on 14.
Manager Roy Hodgson was delighted with his performance and will be hoping it is not just a flash in the pan.
He said: “Diomansy Kamara was fantastic - he missed a lot of the year through injury but since coming back he has been very very good.
“He got us two goals and a penalty (against Aston Villa). He played with great discipline and was a constant thorn in Villa’s side.”
The French striker has only played ten times in the league for Fulham this campaign and has picked up three goals in the process.
But after being last weekend’s top points earner Fantasy Stakes players may well decide to pick him ahead of the Cottager’s trip to Tyneside.
Newcastle have been shaky at the back this season, conceding 28 goals at home, and few would bet against Kamara finding the back of the net.
Roy Hodgson has a selection dilemma on his hands for Saturday’s game as first-choice strikers Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson have recovered from injuries and should be fit to play.
Fantasy football players must take a gamble on whether Hodgson will keep the faith with in-form Kamara or throw his other strikers straight back into the mix.
