Tigers Need a Lion’s Heart Thursday 14th May 2009
Hull City fell into the Premier League drop-zone on Monday but defender Andy Dawson says the fight to avoid relegation is far from over.
The Tigers slipped down to 18th place, after Newcastle beat north east rivals Middlesbrough 3-1 at St. James’s Park, and they will need to pull together if they are going to climb out of trouble.
Dawson’s last-minute goal against Stoke earned him seven Fantasy Stakes points but it was not enough for his team to get anything out of the game – the Tigers going down 2-1 at the KC Stadium.
Hull travel to Bolton at the weekend in a game that they must get something from – they face Manchester United on the final day of the season and won’t want to leave it till then to steer clear of the bottom three.
But 30-year-old Dawson believes the squad has the fighting heart to survive and says they will be giving everything they have got in the final fixtures.
“As a professional footballer you’ve got to pick yourself up and we’ll be ready to go again,” he said.
“We’ve still got two games to go, there’s six points there. We’ve got to get as many points as we can and hope its good enough – we’ve got to go to Bolton and hopefully get three points.
“We know how far the club has come in the last five or six years and we are not going to go down without a fight. That is one thing we can guarantee, we are going to give 100% for the next two games.”
Hull have not won in the league since the first week of March and are in desperate need of three points.
After a fantastic start to the campaign the Tigers have been in freefall and a win at the Reebok would definitely be against the formbook.
They will be up against a Bolton defence that has kept a clean sheet in its last two games – with Hull struggling for goals, Fantasy football players may decide to fill their defence with Bolton’s backline.
